Tutor TrainingThe TLU plays a major role in the recruitment, training and development of the Faculty's tutors. Tutor Training Professional Development: Each semester all new tutors in the Faculty are required to participate in a training program which includes two workshops, as well as an observation by one of the TLU's academic staff. Tutor resources: The TLU has produced a series of Tutor Training Guides specifically aimed at new tutors in the Faculty. These guides cover a variety of topics including how to start your first tutorial, encouraging student participation and questioning, as well as advice on tutoring international students. There are also Tutor Success Stories available to read which are personal vignettes written by current successful tutors. Tutor Training: Professional Development Online: This website has been designed to specifically support tutors and sessional academics responsible for small group teaching in the disciplines within the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. The online resource is a result of a collaborative initiative between The University of Melbourne and The University of Sydney. Coaching Teams and Case-Based Teaching: This website has been designed to support tutors and sessional academics responsible for small group teaching where students are developing team building skills and/or where cases are used. It was developed to help support 325-201 (Organisational Behaviour) taught by members of the Department of Management and Marketing, but is also applicable to tutors and teachers of other subjects, especially where students are required to submit team-based assignments or where case-based teaching techniques are used. CSHE Resources For Sessional Teaching: To support the work and professional development of sessional teachers at the University, the CSHE is developing a range of programs and resources specifically for sessional staff coordinators and teachers. Details will be made available from our website throughout the year.
