Teaching MattersTeaching Matters is an e-newsletter produced by the Teaching and Learning Unit for academic staff in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce.
Welcome to Teaching Matters. It is the end of another busy year teaching and learning in the FEC. In 2009, the excellent work of academic staff has been formally recognised at the national level, with ALTC (Australian Learning and Teaching Council) awards as follows:
These awards are one way of recognising the excellent teaching in the Faculty. In addition, Angela was the 2009 recipient of the Edward Brown Award from The University of Melbourne. At the Faculty level, certificates were awarded to numerous staff for teaching excellence. The following staff were successful in receiving Faculty Awards:
Congratulations are also due to the 19 FEC staff who successfully applied for LTPF (Learning and Teaching Performance Fund) grants in the Faculty. Further details of the projects being funded are available at: http://tlu.ecom.unimelb.edu.au/teaching_staff/pdfs/LTPF%20Successful%20Applications.pdf Following on from the success of the Teaching and Learning Master Class presented by Professor Harvey Brightman (Georgia State University) in February 2009, we are delighted to co-host, with the Department of Management and Marketing, a visit from Professor James Erskine in February 2010. Professor Erskine will conduct a 3-day MasterClass on the effective use of case studies. This seminar is likely to be of wide interest and I encourage you to register your place early. Participants will receive useful resources, including 2 texts titled: Learning with Cases and Teaching with Cases. Dr Tai Peseta leaves the TLU at the end of the year and I would like to acknowledge her significant contribution to academic staff development during her appointment. In addition, this will be my last editorial as Director. My sincere thanks to all Faculty staff who worked generously with the TLU, and particularly to my valued colleagues in the TLU. Dr Martin Davies will be Acting Director in Semester One 2010, with a permanent appointment expected for Semester Two 2010. Seasons Greetings from all at the TLU! In this issue:
