2010 Quantitative Analysis of Teaching and Learning in Business, Economics and Commerce Forum

The Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University and Melbourne will hold the 6th annual forum entitled:
“The Quantitative Analysis of Teaching and Learning in Business, Economics and Commerce” on 12 February 2010.

THE FEBRUARY 2010 CONFERENCE WILL HOST PAPERS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Who is Afraid of Business Statistics?
  • Student Performance in a Large First Year Economics Subject: Which Variables are Significant?
  • Innovative Teaching Practices to Produce Innovative Graduates: A Framework
  • Rubric-based assessment and academic performance: The roles of approaches to learning and academic self-efficacy
  • The Importance of Prior Knowledge of the Subject Studied in Explaining the Academic Outcomes of First-Year Commerce Students
  • Teaching Management Mathematics
  • A Causality Test of the Learning Approach and Students’ Perception of Learning Context in Economics Education
  • Do Prerequisites Matter? Analysis of Economic Modelling
  • Post-graduate student engagement with the subject: revelation of factors influencing student success
  • How effective are in-semester tests in predicting final examination results? A case study from Econ 101.

Please note that a parallel forum will be held on Thursday 11th February, 2010 entitled: Measuring the Student Experience. This half-day forum will feature quantitative papers on the Course Experience Questionnaire and institutional teaching evaluation surveys/teaching quality instruments (TQIs).

We invite papers for both forums. Please indicate which forum you wish to present at.

The quantitative forum in commerce disciplines is a joint initiative of the Teaching and Learning Unit (TLU) and the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Melbourne. It is now in its fifth year and regularly attracts between 80 and 100 participants from around 38 universities in the Australasian region. Presenters have their accommodation and airfare paid, and accepted papers are published in the refereed Forum proceedings.
