First-Year Peer Mentor Program

The First-Year Peer Mentoring Program aims to help new students make the transition into university life as smoothly as possible, by providing a support network, opportunities to meet new people and a forum in which to ask other students questions.

Mentoring groups - led by later-year students who have volunteered and trained to be mentors - meet once a week for the first four weeks of each semester.

During these meetings mentors are able to show their mentees around the Faculty and University facilities. They can also provide useful information on living and studying in Melbourne, such as: what to do in lectures and tutorials, where to find past examination papers, where to buy cheap groceries and the best places to visit in Melbourne.

Being experienced students, mentors are not only a great source of information and a sounding board for questions and concerns, but they are also a friend. The program also provides new students with a chance to get to know other mentees in the Faculty and to perhaps begin lasting friendships.

If you would like to participate in the program, do any of the following:

  • Read the email you will be sent to your student account and follow the instructions to register online.
  • Visit the mentoring website and follow the links to the First-Year program.
  • Contact the TLU directly.
