Peer-Assisted Study Scheme (PASS)

The PASS program gives Bachelor of Commerce students at Melbourne University a unique study and social experience.

The program runs small subject-specific study and revision groups that are facilitated by a trained leader who is a senior student who has done well in the subject.

What is unique about PASS? In each session your groups decides how you will revise the lecture and reading materials. If, for example, a new concept seems particularly impenetrable, you have the time in your PASS session to work it through with the leader and the other students in the group.

PASS is an internationally recognised program. Students across the UK, Asia and North America enrol in PASS programs and inevitably find that as a consequence, results are higher and study is a lot more fun.

As for outcomes, our evaluations have found that students who actively participate in the PASS program generally get 10% higher marks than students who do not take advantage of PASS.

What do students say about PASS?

“What PASS offers that makes it unique is a strong focus on a collaborative learning environment where everyone can feel comfortable to share their ideas, knowledge, and ask questions…It’s one thing to have a certain understanding of a topic, but to have to explain it to someone else in a way they can understand takes certain degree of skill.”

Aaron, PASS Leader 2007
