Learning Management System (LMS) support

The LMS is the University of Melbourne's new Learning Management System. The core component of the LMS is the Blackboard Learning System which is an Internet-based system used to host subject content and also has available a number of in-built online learning tools. The TLU provides support services relating to the LMS to Faculty academic and professional staff. These services include:

One-on-one consultations

To request a one-on-one consultation, please email Jennifer Shaw on telephone 03 8344 4464. We can provide assistance with setting up each subject page or troubleshoot particular issues.

Telephone and email support

TLU staff are available to answer questions over the phone or via email. Support for the LMS is provided by Jennifer Shaw by phone on 03 8344 4464 or by email.

Workshops

Workshops are aimed at staff who have little or no prior knowledge of the LMS and are held in the lead-up to and first few weeks of every semester.. They are hands-on, allowing participants to actually construct their subject page during the workshop.

Subject banners

The TLU has developed an online tool which you can use to automatically create a banner for your subject page. It only takes a few seconds to generate the banner which can be downloaded immediately. The banner generator is located here.

Student introduction

Academic staff can request a TLU staff member to provide a five-minute introduction to the LMS to students in the first lecture of each subject. Alternatively, academics can download (ppt 32Kb) the slides and present themselves, if preferred.

LMS Manual and LMS Style Guide

In addition to providing these services, the TLU has prepared a number of resources to assist academic and professional staff to use the LMS. The TLU has prepared a manual designed to provide the information needed for academics to get the LMS subject page up and running. The TLU manual also includes some faculty-specific information.

The LMS Style Guide provides a set of recommendations which are designed to make the layout of LMS subject pages consistent across the faculty.

Other resources

If academic staff wish to teach themselves the LMS, then it's recommended they start with the TLU manual. If more detailed information is required, both the University of Melbourne Staff Guide or Blackboard Online User Manual can be downloaded.
